For university students in Freiburg: the SemesterTicket is valid for six months across the network within the city of Freiburg as well as in the districts of Emmendingen and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. Study the public transport routes – for 16 euros per month.

The SemesterTicket is so affordable because every student contributes to the cost through their semester fees. Solidarity pays off: as a thank you to ALL students, use of the RVF’s public transport is free from 7pm on presentation of a valid student card from one of the participating universities.
First-class travel on Deutsche Bahn trains is not possible.
Night-time travel on the city’s trams is included. For VAG’s night-time services (Safer Traffic) and Südbadenbus (SBG) and on-demand buses (Abhol-Service per Telefon) for travel into the area around Freiburg, an additional ticket is required.
Students from other universities can access affordable travel with the RegioKarte Schüler (ticket for schoolchildren) or the RVF JugendTicketBW

New ID requirements apply following the introduction of the new UniCard at the University of Freiburg (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität) and the new PH-Card at the Pädagogische Hochschule:
It's easier online - if you buy a SemesterTicket or request a free 7 pm ticket from the VAG OnlineShop, you'll only need to show official photo ID alongside your ticket during inspections.
In all other cases, if you're travelling with a SemesterTicket or travelling on Sundays and workdays after 7 pm without a SemesterTicket, you'll need to show official photo ID, a matriculation (enrolment) certificate, and the new UniCard or PH-Card.
For students with the old UniCard or old PH Card with photo and students at other universities in Freiburg, nothing has changed: your student ID is all you need.
